Understanding Australian Standard for colour coded waste and reycle bins.

Australian Standards – waste and recycling colour coding (AS4123.7-2006)

In Australia we see a variety of colours and styles of waste disposal units and recycling bins. However, since the introduction of the Australian Standards for mobile bin colours in 2006 (AS4123.7-2006) we have hopefully seen more consistencies across the board. It’s great to have standard colours that can be followed to avoid and contamination at the recycling center.

Where better to start educating our next generation but with the waste bins in the classrooms and play areas of our schools.

Australia introduced a standard colour code for mobile waste management and recycling bins in 2006 which are commonplace in the market now. Restock offers bins and equipment that meet Australian Standards colour codes.

These are:

  • General Waste – dark green or black body with red lid
  • Mixed (Commingled) recycling (glass, plastic, metal, and paper combined) – dark green or black body with yellow lid
  • Green Waste/Organics – dark green or black body with lime green lid
  • Food Waste – dark green or black body with burgundy lid
  • Paper and cardboard recycling bins – dark green or black body with blue lid

Restock colour range is shown below, you can mix and match the bin colour and lid colour.
